His father was arrested during the purges, 1937 and died in the Kolyma camps. Arrested, 1947, sentenced to 8 years in the Gulag camps. Released after Stalin’s death, 1954.
Resumed his studies at Moscow University, graduating in economics in 1966. During the late 1960s, one of the best known Soviet dissidents. Arrested, 1969. Returned to Moscow, 1971.
Re-arrested, 1972. Under threat, agreed to cooperate with the Committee for State Security. according to his own subsequent confession. Emigrated, 1975. Settled in the USA.
