At the beginning of the 20th century, a prominent member of symbolist circles. Tried to live out her symbolist fantasies, which brought her emotional misery and ended in drug addiction. Called the ‘Russian Carmen' in her youth.
Became the focus of an incredibly convoluted love drama with Briusov and Belyi. Briusov’s novel Ognennyi Angel is about her. Emigrated, 1911. Lived in Rome in absolute poverty.
Moved to Berlin, 1921.
