Took part in World War I. During the Civil War, fought with the Whites. Evacuated to Gallipoli with the remnants of the White armies. One of the military leaders in Gallipoli under the command of General Kutepov.
Moved to Yugoslavia. During World War II, joined the Russian Corps, organized to fight the communist partisans, and after the arrest by the Germans of General Skorodumov, the founder of the corps, took over command under the new name of the Russian Guard Group, comprising 12,000 men. Fought Tito’s partisans. The Russian Guard Group surrendered to the British in Austria and was the only Russian anti-communist formation treated as regular POWs and not threatened by extradition to SMERSH.
