Lived in Germany, Italy and France. Worked as a physiologist and biochemist in several European laboratories. After the October Revolution 1917, returned to the USSR. First woman academician at the USSR Academy of Sciences.
Spent the years 1949-1955 in the Gulag and in exile. Lived in Dzhambul, Kazakhstan. In 1987, Nauka publishing house in Moscow published her biography.
