Became a star in the Soviet Union for his role of Prince Andrei Bolkonskii in War and Peace, 1967. Played the leading part in the TV soap opera Semnadtsat' Mgnovenii Vesny, 1973. State Prize, 1976. Married the equally famous actress Nonna Mordiukova.
