Entered C.S.A. as Lieutenant in a company from Shelbyville. Taken prisoner at Fort Donelson. Was at Johnson’s Island until exchanged, September, 1862.
Elected Lieutenant-colonel 41st Tennessee Regiment, C.S.A., September, 1862.
Colonel, 1863; commanded regiment at Chickamauga, where he was severely wounded at Snodgrass Hill. Upon recovery resumed command, later colonel 3d Consolidated Tennessee regiment.
Surrendered with Joe Johnston’s army in North Carolina. Removed to Fayetteville and practiced law, 1865-1895.
