New York City; partner banking firm Corcoran & Riggs, Washington, District of Columbia, 1840-1848, firm took up loans required by United States Government to finance Mexican War, bought Corcoran’s interest, 1854, firm became known as Riggs & Company (Riggs National Bank since 1896), director, until 1881. Member board aldermen District of Columbia.
Chairman of commission to present to the United States Congress a petition for an investigation into the conduct of the Board Public Works, 1873.
Built and owned Riggs House (hotel). An organizer Washington and Georgetown Railroad Company.
