Began as printer’s apprentice in newspaper office, Sherman, Texas, 1870. With Galveston News, 1876-1881. Bookkeeper, Long & Company, shingle mills, Beaumont, and Village Mills, Texas, 1884, later secretary and business manager.
Moved to Houston, 1892, entered lumber business, and owner Emporia Lumber Company. Disposed of lumber interests, 1907, and organized Lumbermen’s National Bank, now the Second National Bank, of which was chairman of board. President Houston Building Company.
Member Young Men’s Christian Association.
