Resigned October 13, 1898, and returned to college. Commissioned major and assistant inspector Texas National Guard, 1900.
Also served as captain and adjunct 4th Infantry Texas National Guard, until retirement, 1913. Commissioned major 133d Field Artillery, 1917.
Promoted lieutenant colonel and assigned to 133d Field Artillery.
Served in France as lieutenant colonel and chief of staff of 61st Field Artillery Brigade Manager Bailey County Cattle Company, Texas, 1900-1907. Postmaster of Dallas, Texas, 1907-1912.
