Private to captain, 15th Alabama Infantry, 1861-1865. Called “boy captain” of his regiment. Wounded 5 times; served under “Stonewall” Jackson in 1st Shenandoah Valley campaign, under General Longstreet at Chickamauga, and under General Lee in Virginia campaigns.
