Appointed special commissioner Department of the Interior by President McKinley, 1898, to adjust claims of Des Moines River land settlers. Delegate from 10th Congressional District, to Republican National Committee, 1900, and 1912. Appointed by Governor Carroll member Iowa commission to prepare employers’ liability and workmen’s compensation law, 1911.
Member provisional Progressive National Committee for Iowa, 1912. A signer to call for Progressive Convention, 1912. Delegate-at-large and chairman delegation to Progressive National Convention, Chicago, 1912.
Member Progressive National Committee, 1912-1916. Candidate Progressive Party for government of Iowa, 1912 (defeated). Promoted Ames & Nevada Telephone Сompany, 1881, and various other telephone enterprises.
