Mayor of Hammond, 1902. Bought the land for City of Gary, Indiana, and planned the city for United States Steel Company, 1906.
Started the movement to save the Indiana dunes for a national park. Organized National Dunes Park Association (1st president).
First president Florida Division Izaak Walton League.
Member Indiana House of Representatives, 1899-1900. Mason. Recognized as an authority on early history of Indiana, and on Pottawottamie Indians. Now building new town of Yankeetown, Florida, mayor same.
