Anthony Barr was an actor for two years in New York City, spent a year as stage manager of the Katherine Dunham Dancers, and then worked from 1947 to 1952 as an actor in Hollywood. A job as a stage manager for CBS-TV (Columbia Broadcasting System) led to his first directing work, for the television series Climax, which he later worked on as associate producer in the mid-1950s. Barr went on to work as a director and producer for ABC (American Broadcasting Company) and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer during the early 1960s. Then, in 1963, he was hired as a program executive for ABC-TV, becoming vice president of prime-time series in 1973. 1981As a teacher, Anthony Barr always stressed the importance of listening - not just to the spoken dialogue - but to the implications of every word, every movement, every pause. His approach teaches the actor to work from himself, and to be simple without becoming de-energized.
Anthony Barr married Annette Barbara on February 24, 1944. They had three children: Susan Joyce, John Burton, David Paul.
