Specialist in theory of elasticity and plasticity. Associate, since 1943, Head, Strength of Materials Department, 1953-1960 Director, Institute of Mechanics, USSR Academy of Science. 1937 designed a pile driver to test materials and model structures at high rates of deformation.
1942-1948 developed theory of slight elastic and plastic deformations and theory of stability of plates and casings beyond the limits of elasticity. 1951-1952 developed simulation theory for pressure-working of metals. 1953-1954 established isotropy postulate of general theory of plasticity.
