Specialist in ancient hist, of peoples of USSR and in Slavonic and Russian archeology. Since 1932 has directed archeological excavations at Vshchizh, Vyshgorod, Moscow, Zvenigorod, Chernigov, Tmutarakan (now Taman), etc. 1953-1958 corresponding member, USSR Academy of Science.
Since 1957 Bureau member,Department of History Science, USSR Academy of Science, and USSR National Committee of Historians. 1958 attended Conference of Historians of USSR and England in London. At 1960 International Congress of History Science in Stockholm presented paper on “Controversial Problems on the Formation of Kiev Rus”.
1936-1939 associate, Institute of the History, of Material Culture USSR Academy of Science. 1939-1943 lecturer, Moscow University.
