1948-1952 Deputy, Commander, then Commander, General Staff of USSR Armed Forces, and USSR Minister of Armed Forces. December 1952-1953 Commander, USSR Army Group in German Democratic Republic. At 1952 Communist Party of the Soviet Union Congress elected member of the Central Committee.
1953, after Stalin’s death, was demoted and vanished from public view for three years. 23 October 1956 appeared as Col-General at reception held in Moscow in honor of Jugoslav military delegate. 1959 headed Soviet Army Intelligence Board.
1960-1961 Deputy Commander of Troops, Volga Military District.
