Albert Leroy Danielsen was born on May 26, 1934 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States. He is a son of Moroni Lloyd and Geneva Gale (Williford) Danielsen.
In 1960 he received a Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University. In 1966 he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Duke University.
From 1963 to 1967 he was an assistant professor, then an associate professor, then professor and professor of economics, a professor emeritus at the University of Georgia since 1997. From 1976 to 1978 he was a director of Office International Market Analysis at the United States Department Energy in Washington. Since 1991 he has worked at the James C. Bonbright Utilities Center, University Georgia. From 1988 to 2007 he was a president of the National Business and Economic Education Associates Inc.
Since 2007 he has been as an executive director of Vertically Integrated Electrical Utilities Center. He is an economic consultant on private contracts, regulation, electrical restructuring and privatization.

He is a member of the American Economics Association and Southern Economics Association.
On June 7, 1958 he married Eleanor Jean Gibson. They have three children: Bartley Roland, Lea Anne, Albert William.
