Ali studied at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. In 1977 he became a Bachelor of Science. In 1983 he was a student of the University of South Carolina. He received a degree of the Master of Science. In 1991 he studied at Georgia State University. He became a Doctor of Philosophy in Astrophysics.
Ali worked as a salesperson in Shokry Stores in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia from 1968 to 1970. In a year he was a sales manager in Shokry Stores in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia. He worked there for a year. From 1973 to 1975 he worked as a teacher in Ahliah School. From 1977 to 1979 he was a graduate assistant of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran, Ash Sharqiyah, Saudi Arabia.
In 1981 he was a part-time instructor in Religious School in Columbia, Missouri, United States. He worked there for two years. From 1988 to 1990 Ali was a part-time instructor in Religious School in Atlanta, North-West, South Africa. In 1991 he was an assistant professor of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran, Ash Sharqiyah, Saudi Arabia. Since 2002 he worked as a chairman of the physics department at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran, Ash Sharqiyah, Saudi Arabia.
Ali married to Fawziah Abdulkarim on July 7, 1979. Children: Reem, Nadin, Tarik, Dania.
