Anatolii Fedorovich Dobrynin


Anatolii Dobrynin, USSR Diplomat.


Dobrynin, Anatolii was born on November 16, 1919 in Krasnaia Gorka near Moscow. Son of a worker.


Graduated from the Moscow Aviation Institute in 1942, then from the Higher Diplomatic School of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


Entered the Diplomatic Service in 1946. Assistant Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, 1949-1952. Embassy Councillor, then Ambassador to the USA, 1952-1955.

Assistant Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, 1955-1957. Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, 1957-1960. Board member and head of the American Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 1960-1962.

Long-serving Ambassador to the USA, 1962-1986. Candidate member (1966-1971) and full member (1971) of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Now lives in Moscow. Considered the foremost specialist on the USA in the Soviet Union.

Retired, October 1988.
