MORELLET, André was born in 1727 in Lyons, France.
One of the encyclopaedistes and a contributor to Peuchet’s Dictionnaire universel de la géographie commercante (1799-1800). He was an ardent free trader, arguing that since man is naturally free, any interference with his buying and selling is a violation of natural law. His Mémoire.. was responsible for the suspension of the Compagnie des Indes (1769).
His translation of the Wealth of Nations into French remained unpublished. Abbé of the Catholic Church.
