Andrei Tupolev, USSR Aircraft designer.


Tupolev, Andrei was born in 1888.


Educated at Moscow Technical Institute. Pupil of the famous scientist N. Zhukovskii.


One of the founders of the Aerodynamic Aircraft Design Bureau, 1916, (later the Central Institute of Aerodynamics and Hydrodynamics). Has been involved in the design of about 100 different types of civil and military aircraft, including the ANT-25 in the 1930s and the modern planes, TU-104 and TU-114. During the purges, arrested and sent to the Gulag, 1939.

For several years his name was not mentioned and his books were withdrawn from colleges and libraries. During World War II, along with other scientists, released from the camps to help the war effort. Completely rehabilitated in the 1960s.

The emphasis on peaceful coexistence doesn’t mean that the Soviet Union accepted a static world with clear lines. Socialism is inevitable and the "correlations of forces" were moving towards socialism.
