Brinstad, Charles William was born on July 17, 1864 in La Crosse County, Wisconsin, United States. Son of Ole P. and Caroline (Olson) Brinstad.


Preparatory education, Wayland Academy, Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. Bachelor of Arts, University of S. Dak., 1888, Master of Arts, 1890. Bachelor of Divinity, Division School University of Chicago, 1893.

Doctor of Divinity, Berkeley Baptist Division School, 1921.


Pastor successively St. Paul, Minnesota, Marshall, Michigan, and Fremont Nebraska, until 1900.

Executive secretary Nebraska Baptist State Convention, 1900-1906, Northern California Baptist Convention, 1906-1933. Retired for further research in anthropology. Organized 82 chs. and raised over $3,000,000 for religious and educational purposes.

Organized and directed religious and educational work for California Indians, Chinese, Hindus, Japanese, Mexicans, Negroes and Russians. Chancellor of California College, Oakland, California, 1909, 10. Director and treasurer American National Building and Loan Association Trustee University of Redlands, Berkeley Baptist Division School.

Director Mexican Baptist Theological Seminary (Los Angeles), Baptist Board of Missionary Coöperation.
