Reinhart, Charles Stanley was born on May 16, 1844 in Pittsburgh. Son of Aaron Grantley and Catherine (McHenry) Reinhart.
Studied Atelier Suisse, Paris, 1867, Royal Academy, Munich, Germany, 1868-1870.
Telegraph operator United States Railroad Corps, branch of Question Manager’s Department, Army of Potomac, 1861-1864. Went to Paris, 1867; illustrator for Harper & Brothers (drew for firm exclusively), 1870-1877. Worked for Scribner, Appleton, Osgood.
Did drawings for General Рractitioner Lathrop’s Spanish Vistas, 1883.
His large painting “Washed Ashore” exhibited in Paris Salon of 1887, “High Tide at Gettysburg” in Salon of 1900. Made series of drawings for C. Doctorate. Warner’s Their Pilgrimage, 1887.
Sold picture “Rising Tide” to French Government, 1890. Oils include “In a Garden,” 1883, “Mussel Fisherwoman,” 1884, “Fla at Villerville,” 1884, “Sunday,” 1885, “English Garden,” “Fisherman of Villerville,” 1886, “Awaiting the Absent,” 1888.
Water colors include “Gathering Wood,” 1877, “Close of Day,” 1877, “At the Ferry;” “Spanish Barber,” 1884.
Awarded 1st gold medal and silver medal Paris Exposition, 1889.
