Commissioned Second lieutenant 7th Infantry, 1899. Promoted through grades to major general, 1941. First lieutenant infantry Philippine Insurrection, 1901-1903, captain infantry Punitive Expedition, Mexico, 1916, colonel, chief of staff, 5th Division in World War, 1917-1918, commanding 6th Division, 1939-1940.

Commanding 5th Corps Area, 1940-1941. Retired, December 31, 1941.
