In charge of cotton gin factory owned by Samuel Griswold, Clinton, Georgia, became partner, 1832. Established Prattville (Alabama), 1838, erected grist mill, lumber and shingle mill, added a cotton-gin plant (made town the indus. center of Alabama), later built cotton and woolen mills, foundry, carriage factory, tinshop, and a merc. establishment. Member Alabama House of Representatives, 1860-1865.
Organized, equipped “Prattville Dragoons” for Confederate Army. Director North and South Railway. Controlled Oxmoor Iron Furnaces, Bimingham, Ala.
