Jones, David was born on May 12, 1736 in New Castle County, Delaware, United States. Son of Morgan and Eleanor (Evans) Jones.

Education

Attended Hopewell Academy, New Jersey, circa 1757-1758.

Career

In New Jersey, 1761; ordained to ministry Baptist Church, 1766. Pastor church, Freehold, New Jersey, 1766-1775, Great Valley Baptist Church, Chester County, Pennsylvania, 1775-1786, 92-1820, Southhampton Baptist Church, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, 1786-1792. An outspoken colonial patriot, served as chaplain Anthony Wayne’s div. of Pennsylvania troops, 1776-1783.

Also chaplain to Pennsylvania troops during War of 1812. Author: A Journal of Two Visits Made to … Indians on the Ohio River, 1774. The Doctrine of Laying on the Hands Examined and Vindicated, 1786.
