Dwayne Douglas Johnson, also known by his ring name The Rock, is an American actor and professional wrestler who is signed to WWE, appearing on the Raw brand. He is often credited as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
His father is of Black Nova Scotian (Canadian) origin and his mother is of Samoan heritage.
Dwayne Johnson, the son of Ata Johnson and Rocky Johnson, was born in Hayward, California. His maternal grandfather, "High Chief" Peter Maivia, was also a professional wrestler. His maternal grandmother, Lia Maivia, ran Polynesian Pacific Pro Wrestling from 1982 until 1988, following her husband's death, becoming one of wrestling's few female professional promoters. For a brief period, Johnson lived in Auckland, New Zealand, with his mother's family. During this time his mother Ata ensured Johnson was exposed to one of the urban Polynesian cultural strongholds of the southern hemisphere. Johnson attended Richmond Road Primary School before returning to the United States with his parents.
Johnson was a college football player. In 1991, he was part of the University of Miami's national championship team. He later played for the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League, and was cut two months into the 1995 season. This led to his decision to become a professional wrestler like his grandfather, Peter Maivia, and his father, Rocky Johnson. He gained mainstream fame as a wrestler in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) from 1996 to 2004, and was the first third-generation superstar in the company's history. Johnson was quickly given a push as a heroic character in the WWF, originally billed as "Rocky Maivia", and then as "The Rock". He would subsequently turn into a villain as a member of the Nation of Domination in 1997. Two years after he joined the WWF, Johnson won the WWF Championship, and became one of the most popular wrestlers within the company's history for his engaging interviews and promos. Johnson is regarded by many as one of the greatest talkers in professional wrestling history, Rock was voted third by the fans for his microphone ability behind Roddy Piper and Stone Cold Steve Austin who were second and first respectively.
Outside the ring, The Rock has launched a successful acting career, dropping the stage name and simply going by Dwayne Johnson. He first made a big splash as the Scorpion King, a supernatural bad guy, in 2001's The Mummy Returns. Johnson returned to this role the following year for The Scorpion King. Trying his hand at comedy, he appeared in 2005's Be Cool with John Travolta and Uma Thurman and 2007's The Game Plan.
Johnson's acting career to continued to thrive through his appearances in such films as Driver (2010) and Fast & Furious 6 (2013). In 2014, he starred as the most famous strong men of all time in Hercules. Johnson also returns to wrestling from time to time, including a 2014 appearance with Hulk Hogan and Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 30.
In 2015, Johnson dominated the big screen with two big action films. He appeared in Furious Seven and starred in San Andreas. Johnson also debuted his first dramatic comedy series that same year. He plays Spencer Strasmore, a retired pro footballer turned financial planner, on Ballers.
Johnson has a daughter, Simone Alexandra, from his first marriage. He and his high school sweetheart, Dany Garcia, wed in 1997 and split up a decade later. Johnson lives in Florida.

Johnson is a Christian and has indicated that he is at least somewhat religious.ohnson is a Christian and has indicated that he is at least somewhat religious.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was born in Hayward, California and grew up in Auckland, New Zealand, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Johnson hasn’t spoken much about his religious views, though his MySpace page indicates that he is “Christian-other.” Johnson has not indicated which denomination, if any, he subscribes to.
He was once cornered by an obviously religious reporter, who wouldn’t let him deflect her religious inquiries. While Johnson was crediting God to getting him through the uncertain times in his life and his career, the reporter was asking, among other things, “What do you do spiritually in life to develop your soul and what does God actually mean to you?” To which Johnson replied:
I have my own special relationship with God… I feel very blessed, I count my blessings every day.
It sort of seems like a stock answer, something publicists and PR professionals tell their clients to say in the event of a religious line of questioning. He once said:
To a degree, all of my promos are scripted…
Still, this does indicate that Johnson is at least somewhat religious.
Johnson is a Republican, but has supported non-partisan political organizations and most of his donations go to educational institutions. He's a moderate and has expressed an interest in a political career.
Johnson is politically ambiguous, having registered as an Independent at least once. But he performed at the 2000 Republican National Convention in 2000 but attended the Democratic National Convention the same year.
However, Johnson has been part of a wrestling-derived organization designed to increase voter turnout regardless of any partisan ideology. It’s called the Smackdown Your Vote! So maybe partisanship is not that important to Johnson.
His financial contributions to society have been rather neutral and educational in nature, including a cool $1 million to the University of Miami and $1,000 to the Valley Education Fund in Sherman Oaks, California. All things considered, Johnson seems rather moderate in his views.
He has expressed a desire to possibly pursue a career in politics and is a confirmed friend of actor and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger. He once said:
I wouldn’t rule [a political career] out. I think in order for politicians to be successful, you have to be passionate about politics. I care about our country, but right now I can make impact in other ways.
Hey, Jesse Ventura did it, and he’s awesome.
Everything in life has a purpose for Dwayne. No matter what his dreams were, becoming a wrestler, acting or football, he did extremely well because he wasn’t afraid to follow his dreams. Without the drive to succeed and be the best, he might not have excelled the way he has.
Dwayne Johnson followed his dreams, but more importantly, he did everything in his power to transform them into a reality.
Deciding to be friends with good people changed his life dramatically. If he would have stayed with the same crowd, he might have been thrown in jail. He knew that certain aspects of his life had to change, so he cut out all of the bad people in his life. This allowed him to feed off of their success and grow as a person.
Taking risks has enabled Dwayne Johnson to venture from wrestling to acting. If he wasn’t successful in acting, he might have passed up his fame in wrestling. Since the sport is very unforgiving, time away could have resulted in him not being a fan favorite anymore. However, he took the risk and has become a very successful actor.
Dwayne Johnson should be an inspiration to everyone. The decisions he made in life are what ultimately led to his success. Oftentimes, his life took a turn for the worse and the end of his football career was a major turning point in his life. Instead of giving up, he dedicated himself to aiming high and becoming a wrestler. Shortly after, he became one of the most well known wrestlers of all time and is now on the road to be a highly acclaimed hollywood actor and role model for all who are willing to be the best that they can be.

Bayshore Christian Ministries:
"Dwayne graciously traveled across the Bay Area to take photos at our nonprofit. He developed a quick rapport with our elementary school students and staff as he worked. The best part was seeing the great candid moments he captured while the kids were outside playing and still in quiet study. His photos will definitely help us promote the work we do to serve children in our city. Thanks, Dwayne!"
