Chrisman, Edward Robert was born on August 13, 1866 in Connersville, Indiana, United States. Son of Jesse Swisher and Catharine Verlinda (Price) Chrisman.

Education

Graduated from the United States Military Academy, 1888, School of Submarine Mining, Willetts Point, New York, 1892.

Career

Commissioned Second lieutenant infantry, United States of America, 1888, and advanced through grades to colonel, May 15, 1917. Retired January 31, 1921. Brigadier general on retired list, June 21, 1930.

Professor military science and tactics, South Dakot State College, 1909-1911. On active duty as professor military science and tactics, University of Idaho, 1919-1936, commandant of cadets, 1932-1935, professor military science and tactics, emeritus for life, by act of Congress, approved April 15, 1936, comilt. of cadets, emeritus, by board of regents, University of Idaho, 1935. Participated in Sioux Indian Campaign, 1890-1891.

Spanish-American War, Cuba, 1898 (cited for gallantry in action). Philippine Insurrection, 1899-1902. Leyte Campaign, Pulujan (P.I.) Outbreak, 1906-1907.

Served in Panama Canal Zone, and brigadier general commanding United States forces in Puerto Rico, World War.
