Eric David Bovet was born on July 23, 1900, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. He was a son of of Paul Auguste Bovet and Clarisse (Lenoir) Bovet.

Eric did undergraduate and graduate studies in Europe and received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Economics from the University of Geneva in 1953.
In 1928, Eric served as a tutor to Franklin D. Roosevelt's sons in Hyde Park, New York. The following year, in 1929, he worked as a manager of Mistress E. Roosevelt's Val-Kill Furniture Shop, also in Hyde Park. Between 1928 and 1929, Bovet held a post of an accountant at Dennison Manufacturing Company in Framingham, Massachusetts.
In 1931, Eric was appointed an economist and statistician at Fairchild Publications in New York City. From 1935 till 1937, he served as a research economist at the National Resources Committee in Washington. In 1941, Bovet moved to the Office of Secretary in the United States Department of the Navy in Washington as a statistician and economist, the posts he continued to maintain until 1946.
During the period from 1947 till 1950, Eric acted as a chief budget officer on the Research and Development Board at the United States Department of Defense. From 1955 till 1956, he worked as a budget economist at the United States Air Force Air Research and Development Command in Baltimore. It was in 1956, that Bovet was made a coordinator of logistic systems in the United States Navy in Washington, where he remained till 1962, when he was appointed a chief of the Economics Division in the Office of Saline Water, Department of the Interior in Washington.
In 1970, Eric retired from government work and became a freelance economic consultant, a position he maintained until 1990. He also served as a professor of marketing and economics at the Universities of Maryland and Colorado.
In addition, he wrote several books, including "Dynamics of Business Motivation: Its Impact on the Economic Climate", "Stagflation: The Penalty of Speculative Production in a Multi-Stage Economy" and "The Roots of Productivity and Profit".
Eric was a member of the American Economics Association and Flattop Mountain Landowners Association, of which he was a treasurer between 1978 and 1992.
Eric married Ethel Mae (Lindsey) Bovet on July 19, 1946. Their marriage produced four children - David Marc, Raymond Paul, Astrid Elaine and Marguerite Lynn.
