In 1937, Sandle received a Bachelor of Arts from Dillard University. In 1947, he received a Master of Arts from the University of Chicago. Floyd also received a Ph.D. from Louisiana State University in 1959.
From 1951 to 1978, Floyd Sandle worked as a member of faculty at Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana, then, in 1985, he began working as professor of speech, department head, dean of Division of General Studies and became a professor emeritus. From 1972 to 1973, Floyd was a visiting professor at Louisiana State University. From 1978 to 1986, Sandle also worked a professor of speech and drama and chairperson of Humanities Division at Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Floyd was a member of the National Association of Dramatic and Speech Arts, American Educational Theatre Association, Southern Speech Association, Theta Alpha Phi, Kappa Delta Phi, Omega Psi Phi and Lions Club.
On June 11, 1941, Sandle married Marie Johnson. They had five children: Gail, Ava, Wanda, Floyd Junior and Anthony.
