Duncan, George Brand was born on October 10, 1861 in at Lexington, Kentucky, United States. Son of late Henry T. and Lily (Brand) D.


Graduated from the United States Military Academy, 1886. Army War College, 1912.


Commissioned Second lieutenant 9th Infantry, July 1, 1886. Promoted through grades to brigadier general N.A., 1917. Major general, 1918; brigadier general United States Army, 1920.

Promoted major general United States Army, December 6, 1922. Retired October 10, 1925. Staff Major General John M. Schofield, 1892-1894.

Adjt. 4th Infantry, 1894-1898. Adjt. general provisional div., Santiago, Cuba, July 1898 and provisional div. in P.R. and District of Ponce, August-October 1898. In Philippines, 1899-1902, 1903-1909 commanding batn.

Philippine scouts, 1905-1909). General Staff, 1914-1917. With American Expeditionary Forces in France, June 1917-May 1919.
