Baker, Gordon Harrington was born on March 20, 1878 in Tancook Island, Nova Scoti, Canada. Son of Reuben and Ada (Hubley) Baker.


Graduate Horton Academy, Wolfville, Nova Scoti, 1900. Bachelor of Arts, Acadia U., 1904. Bachelor of Divinity, Rochester Theological Seminary, 1907.

Doctor of Divinity, Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, 1930.


Came to the United States, 1920, naturalized, 1926. Ordained ministry Baptist Church, 1905. Pastor Point St. Charles Church, Montreal, Canada, 1907-1909.

Founder, 1909, and pastor Temple Church, same city, 1909-1917. General superintendent Sunday School Association of Province Quebec, 1917-1920. Pastor First Church, Schenectady, 1920-1926, Washington Heights Church, New York, 1926-1932.

Founder, 1932, and pastor Home Church New York, 1932-1937. Founder, 1938 and since president International Evangelistic Association, New York City. Also pastor Lenox Road Church, Brooklyn, since 1940.

One of founders and since trustee Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, 1925, Eastern Baptist College, St. Davids, Pennsylvania, 1952. President Protestant Ministers’ Conference, Religious Education Council. Member board Humane Society.
