Grant Lana Del Rey Elizabeth (Lizzy Grant, May Jailer, Lizzi, Lana Rey Del Mar, Sparkle Jump Rope Queen, Phenomena, Mafiosi Princess, Miss Daytona and Lana Del Ray)

singer and songwriter

Lana Del Rey, real name Elizabeth Grant, is an American singer/songwriter who shot to fame in 2011 with her haunting single “Video Games”. She chose her stage name as she wanted something that reflected her style – old Hollywood glamour. Her first EP, Kill Kill, was released under the name Lizzy Grant in 2009.

Background

Lana Del Ray was born by the name Elizabeth Woolridge Grant on June 21, 1986 in New York City but grew up in Lake Placid, New York. She is of Scottish descent with roots in Lanarkshire. She is the daughter of domain investor Rob Grant. She began singing in the church choir when she was a girl.

Career

Musical stardom is not an option with Ms Del Rey. It is her vocation. She calls herself the ‘gangsta Nancy Sinatra’ and defines her genre as ‘Hollywood pop/ sadcore’, a dramatic new loop for pop music. Her look she describes as ‘Lolita got lost in the ‘hood’. Get used to it all. This isn’t just soundbite, it’s Lana’s reality. Del Rey first released a three-track EP titled Kill Kill in October 2008 under the name Lizzy Grant, featuring the tracks “Kill Kill”, “Yayo” and “Gramma (Blue Ribbon Sparkler Trailer Heaven)”.

Del Rey later released her first full-length studio album titled Lana Del Ray A.K.A. Lizzy Grant in January 2010.. It was the singer’s first professionally produced album, released under Lizzy Grant on an independent label with producer David Kahne.

Quotations: I have a personal ambition to live my life honestly and honor the true love that I’ve had and also the people I’ve had around me. I want to stay hopeful, even though I get scared about why we’re even alive at all.
