Henze began his career as head of the department of pharmaceutical chemistry at the University of Texas Medical Branch in 1921. Six years later he took the position of a professor at the University of Texas-Austin College of Pharmacy, where he worked until 1972. Also, Henry served as a chairman of the chemistry department at the same college from 1929 to 1939.
Henze was a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Texas Academy of Science, American Chemical Society, American Association of University Professors, Alpha Epsilon Delta, Phi Lambda Upsilon, Alpha Chi Sigma, Kappa Psi and Sigma Pi.
On August 24, 1933 Henry Henze married Elizabeth Sledge.
