Howard Fast was an American novelist and television writer. He also wrote under the pen names E. V. Cunningham and Walter Ericson.


FAST, Howard was born on November 11, 1914 in New York, United States. Son of Barney and Ida (nee Miller) Fast.

Young Howard began writing at an early age. He wrote his first novel, Two Valleys, published in 1933 when he was 18. His first popular work was Citizen Tom Paine, a fictional account of the life of Thomas Paine.

He was war correspondent in the Far East for Esquire and Coronet magazines, 1945. Taught at Indiana University, Bloomington, Summer 1947; imprisoned for contempt of Congress, 1947; owner, Blue Heron Press, New York, 1952-57. Since 1989 weekly columnist, New York Observer. Founder, World Peace Movement, and member, World Peace Council, 1950-55.
