Wald, Jerry was born on September 16, 1912 in New York City. Son of Rudolph and Bella (Dungeo) Wald.


Bachelor of Commercial Science, New York University. Student Columbia.


Columnist on Broadway, and on radio New York Graphic, 1928-1932. With Warner Brothers 1932-1950, after writing, acting and helping to produce Rambling Round Radio Row and selling them to Twenty Million Sweethearts. Formed Wald-Krasna Productions in June, 1950.

Vice president, executive producer Columbia Pictures, 1953-1956. Joined 20th Century Fox with own independent company. Wald Productions, Incorporated, since 1956.

Youngest producer to reeive Thalberg award, 1948. Among recent pictures produced are Action in the North Atlantic, Background to Danger In Our Time, Destination Tokyo, To Have and Have Not, The Very Thought of You, Objective Burma, Pride of the Marines, Mildred Pierce, Humoresque, Possessed, The Unfaithful, The Dark Passage, Johnny Belinda, John Loves Mary, Young Man With a Horn, The Glass Menagerie, The Breaking Point, From Here to Eternity, Picnic, Miss Sadie Thompson, The Harder They Fall, Jubal, You Can’t Run Away From lieutenant Solid Gold Cadillac, Eddy Duchin Story.
