Ordained and installed as minister Third Religious Society (Unitarian), Dorchester, Massachusetts, March 2, 1904. Pastor Church of the Messiah, New York City (now called The Community Church of New York), 1907-1949, emeritus since 1949. Active in Unitarian Church affairs 1908-1918.

Vice president N.A.A. C.P., since 1909. Director American Civil Liberties Union since 1917, Chairman of the Board, 1939-1949. President All World Gandhi.
