Dillon, John Forrest was born on December 25, 1831 in Montgomery Company, New York, United States. Son of Thomas and Rosannah (Forrest) Dillon.

Education

Went to Iowa in boyhood. Doctor of Medicine Iowa U., 1850. After 6 months’ medical practice began study of law.

(Doctor of Laws, Iowa College and Cornell College, Iowa, 1862).

Career

Admitted to bar, 1852. Prosecuting attorney, 1852-1858. Judge 7th Judicial District, Iowa, 1858-1863.

Judge Supreme Court of the Iowa, 1863-1869. United States Circuit judge, 8th Judicial Circuit, 1869-1879. Resigned; professor real estate and equity jurisprudence, Columbia, 1879-1882.

Practicing law, New York, since 1882. General counsel of the Member of Parliament Railway Company, Western Union Tel. Company, and Texas Pacific Railway Company Author: Life, Character and Judicial Services of Chief Justice Marshall.
