Second in command Lieutenant, 1916, and advanced through the grades to brigadier general, July 25, 1942. With army, England and France, 1943-1944. Retired for disability in service, February 1945.

Mexican Expedition, 1916. With American Expeditionary Forces, France, 1917-1918.
