Truesdell, Karl was born on August 27, 1882 in Moorhead, Minnesota, United States. Son of Julius Augustus and Cornelia Octavia (Riggs) Truesdell.


Education high school, Washington, District of Columbia, 1901, Army Signal School, 1911-1912, School of the Line, 1920-1921 (honorary graduate), staff schedul, 1921-1922, Army War College, 1925-1926, Naval War College, 1926-1927.


Enlisted in the United States Army, 1901, second in command Lieutenant, 1904, advanced through the grades to major general, 1940. Served with 33d, 26th and 1st Divisions and V Army Corps, American Expeditionary Force, during World War I. In battles of Siechprey, Cantigny, Soissons, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne.

Chief budget and legislation, War Department General Staff, 1927-1931. With 15th Infantry, Tientsin, China, 1932-1935. Director Military Intelligence Department, Army War College, 1935-1937.

Commanding officer Fort Jay, New York, and 16th Infantry, 1937-1938. Commanding general 12th Brig., 1938-1939, First Division, 1940, 6th Army Corps, 1941. Deputy commander Panama Department to March 1942.

Commandant Command and General staff schedul, Fort Leavenworth, 1943-1945. Retired 1946. American member of International Allied Radio Commission.
