Wright received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts and History from Texas A&M University in 1977. Ten years later she graduated from Lee College. In 1991, Katherine was given a Master of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Houston.
Wright began her career as a catalog clerk at J. C. Penney Company, Inc. in 1974 and had held the position for a year. In 1978, she took a position of a substitute teacher at San Augustine Independent School District. Then in 1980, Katherine became a mathematics teacher at Brookeland Independent School District, where she worked until 1981.
Also she served as a substitute teacher at Deer Park Independent School District from 1988 to 1989. In 1989, Wright was appointed the 6th grade teacher at Channelview Independent School District. In 1994, she became the 7th grade teacher of English and English as a Second Language at Houston Independent School District, where she worked for a year. Since 1996 Katherine has been the 8th grade teacher of English at the same school.
Wright is a member of Texas Computer Education Association and Houston Federation of Teachers.
Wright was married. She has three children.
