Career

; married second, Mistress Mary Kane Drury, March 27, 1953. Commissioned Second lieutenant cavalry, United States Army, 1901. Advanced through grades to major general 1939.

Participated in operations at Santiago, Cuba, Spanish-American War, 1898, in Northern Luzon and Cavite Province, Philippine Insurrection, 1900-1901. Operations against Ute Indians, Montana, 1906. During World War I served as chief of staff 87th, 83d divisions, and Embarkation Center, Le Mans, France.

Participated in Meuse-Argonne offensive. On War Department general staff and general staff with troops. Military attache American Embassy, London, 1924-1927.

Commandant 3d United States Cavalry and Fort Myer, Virginia, 1933-1936. Commander 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Bliss, Texas, 1938-1940. In command of Ninth Army Corps, Fort Lewis, Washington, 1941.

Commanding 9th Service Command, 1943. President Allied Control Common for Italy, 1943-1944. Retired November 30, 1943.

Member California Crime Commission, 1947-1950. Member President Committee National Armed Forces Museum, 1957-1960.
