Lescaze received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University in 1960. Also he graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy.
Lescaze began his career as a copy boy at The Washington Post in 1963. Two years later he worked as an assistant foreign editor at the same newspaper. Then in 1967, Lee became a foreign correspondent at The Washington Post in Saigon and held it for a year. Also in 1970, he took the same position at that newspaper in Hong Kong.
Also Lescaze worked as a foreign editor at The Washington Post from 1973 to 1974. A year later he was appointed a national editor at the same newspaper. Then in 1977, Lee became a correspondent of The Washington Post in New York. In 1980, he took a position a White House correspondent and assistant managing editor at Washington Post in 1982.
In 1983, Lescaze joined The Wall Street Journal and became foreign editor in 1989 and weekend editor in 1994. In that role, he inaugurated the Journal's Friday Sports, Travel and Home Front pages. Lee also was a frequent contributor of book reviews to the Leisure & Arts page.
