Maria Dmitrievna Krivopolenova

folk singer

Maria Krivopolenova, USSR Folk singer.

Krivopolenova, Maria was born on March 31, 1843 in the village of Ust’- Ezhuga, Northern Russia.

Discovered (by A. Grigoriev in 1900) as a talented singer of old folk tales (byliny) and historical folk songs. Retained in her memory a whole treasury of folklore, based on the traditional oral recitals of Northern Russia (although the byliny cycle revolves around the old Southern capital of Kiev and the figure of Vladimir Krasnoe Solnyshko, in whom St. Vladimir and Vladimir Monomakh merge in a semi-mythical figure of Arthurian proportions).
