Nozzolio, Michael F. was born on April 10, 1951 in Seneca Falls, New York, United States. Son of Albert F. Nozzolio and Anna N. Comernisky.


Bachelor in Labor Relations, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. Master in public Administration and Agricultural Economics, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. Juris Doctor, Syracuse University College Law, New York.


He is a Republican. He was first elected in 1992. The 54th district includes parts of the city of Auburn, New York, Geneva, New York, and part or all of the following counties, Wayne County, Ontario County, Cayuga County, Tompkins County, Seneca County, and Monroe County. He holds a Juris Doctorate from Syracuse University College of Law.

Nozzolio also served as a JAG officer in the U.S. Naval Reserves and is currently a Commander in the New York Naval Militia. During his tenure in the Assembly, he was chosen to serve as Deputy Minority Leader. At the time, he was the youngest State legislator ever elected from his region.

Nozzolio currently serves as the Chairman of the Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee. He is also the senior Senator representing the Monroe County delegation in the New York State Senate. In 2008, Nozzolio was honored by the New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services with the group’s “Public Policy Leadership Award” for sponsoring legislation to mandate alternative prison housing and treatment for prisoners with psychiatric disabilities, making prisons safer for inmates and correctional officers.

He was also named Legislator of the Year by the New York State Association for Behavior Analysis in recognition of his service and support of individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. In 2011, Nozzolio voted against the Marriage Equality Act, which the Senate passed 33-29. roll call In 2016, Nozzolio announced that he would not seek reelection, citing the prohibitive recovery period for an upcoming open-heart surgery. He was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1983 to 1992, sitting in the 190th, 191st, 192nd, 193rd and 194th New York State Legislatures. He is also a member of both the Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Rules Committee, which have jurisdiction over the State budget and all legislation before the State Senate. Nozzolio currently serves as a member of the Cornell University Council and on the Board of the Cornell Agriculture and Food Technology Park.

Nozzolio is also a member of the First Niagara Bank Advisory Board.
