Talyzina was born on December 28, 1923 in Luchinskiy, Jaroslavl, Russia; the daughter of Fedor Konstantinovich Guseinov and Maria Vasilevna (Novorodonova) Talyzina.
Talyzina entered at Yaroslavl Pedagogical School in 1939. Three years later she entered at Yaroslavl State Pedagogical University named after K. D. Ushinsky. Also in 1950, Nina earned her Doctor of Psychology degree from Russian Academy of Education.
Talyzina began her career as an assistant of the psychology department at Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1950. Two years later she took a position of a lecturer of the psychology department at the same university. Then in 1962, Nina became a senior lecturer at Lomonosov Moscow State University and held it for eleven years. Also she served as a head of the department of pedagogical psychology at that university from 1963 to 1995.
In addition, since 1966 she was a head of laboratory of learning psychology at Lomonosov Moscow State University. Since 1989 Nina held a position of a director of the Center for retraining of education workers of psychology faculty at the same university.

On July 13, 1959 Nina Talyzina married Fruta Abasmirzaevich Guseinov. They have 2 children.
