George C. Will was born in 1865 in Scotland, United Kingdom.
He received an architectural training under George Rust of Aberdeen.
While in his teens he migrated to America. Arriving in Boston, Mr. Will obtained a position in the office of R. Clipton Sturgis, and after leaving there joined the drafting staff of the firm of Shepley, Rutan & Coolidge. In that busy office he remained for several years, working on plans for a number of the firm’s important works, including the Harper Memorial Library in Chicago, and the Harvard Freshman Dormitories in Cambridge, Mass.
During the first World War Mr. Will was appointed Chief Architect of the Quartermaster's Division of the War Department, in charge of planning and erection of Veterans’ Hospitals. Among these were buildings at Camp Carter, Mich., and other Army centers at Northampton, Mass., Chillicothe, Ohio, and American Lake, Washington. He also designed the Medical School of the Army Medical Center in Washington, D. C., and following the suc¬cessful completion of the structure was raised in rank to Lieutenant-Colonel of the Q.M. Corps..
