He was born in Hamar as a son of Mathias Sigwardt Greve (1832–1912) and Blanca Olivia Juell (1836–1918).

Their daughter Anita Greve was a painter. His main works are Norges Brannkasse (with H Jürgens, finished 1897 and demolished 1977), the Norwegian Museum of Decorative Arts and Design (with I O Hjorth, finished 1904) and the Norwegian Institute of Technology (finished 1914).
