Södergren won the 50 km competition at both the 2006 and the 2008 Holmenkollen ski festival, which made him the only skier to have won an international 50 km elite race with individual start in free technique since 2004. He won his first Olympic bronze medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin in the 4x10 km relay and also finished 5th in the double pursuit event at the same Olympics. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver he became an Olympic champion winning a gold medal with the Swedish team in the 4x10 km relay.
