Orphaned at an early age and lived at Yekatarinin inst. Took part in amateur theatricals. Acted in productions of Social of Art and Lit.
1889 married K. S. Stanislavskiy (Alekseyev) and later assisted him in founding of Moscow Arts Theater. Directed and taught at Stanislavskiy Studio. From 1923 Honorary Artiste of Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic.
